Treating Winter Itch and Dry Winter Skin
  • Turn Down The Time & Temp - Take shorter, less warm baths and showers. Long, hot soaks in the bath or showers can strip the protective oils from your skin. Keep your baths and showers under 10 minutes and use warm (not hot) water.
  • Moisturize As Often As Possible. Apply a rich cream or lotion to help seal in moisture and keep water from escaping, but look for a cream that doesn't have parabens as they can irritate skin . A great tip is to use pure vegetable glycerin because it attracts moisture to the skin and helps seal in the moisture you already have. If your skin is extremely dry, you can also use a moisturizing oil, such as olive oil or almond oil. You can apply the oil directly to damp skin or pour approximately 1 fluid ounce (30 ml) into your bath water. Always apply moisturizers after a bath or shower while your skin is still moist to maximize its absorption and effectiveness.
  • Use A Mild Cleanser. Non-foaming cleansing creams and liquid shower gels with added moisturizers are the best options for dry skin, or use a cleanser in a self foaming container such as our ThermaSkin soap. Avoid soaps with SLS or SLES which is found in most deodorant and antibacterial bar soaps.

  • Pat Your Skin Dry. Avoid rubbing your skin to dry. Gently dry off by patting your skin with a soft towel. Then immediately moisturize with an oil or cream while your skin is still damp.

  • Add Moisture To The Indoor Air. Forced hot air heat is one of the worst enemies of your skin because it strips it of moisture. A room humidifier will add moisture to the air inside your home, but keep the unit clean and free of mold and bacteria. Placing bowls of water on your radiators is a low-tech option if you live in an older home.

  • Wear Gentle Fabrics. Dry skin is easily irritated. Wear clothing made from soft natural materials like cotton and silk. Wash your clothing with a detergent that doesn’t contain dyes or perfumes that can irritate your skin.
  • Use ThermaSkin spray or roll-on daily to relieve and prevent itchy winter skin. Check out our Buy One Get one Free TV Offer.  Learn More
